Nintendo is already starting off hot with the Switch 2 in Japan. Nintendo President, Shuntaro Furukawa, announced on X that roughly 2.2 million applicants have entered the lottery for the Nintendo Switch 2 via the My Nintendo Store online. This exceeded expectations and exceeds the number of units that will be available from their online store by June 5. With that being said, there will be a significant number of people who will not be selected when the winners are announced tomorrow, Thursday, April 24. To avoid further time and trouble, those who applied for the first lottery and lose will automatically be entered into the second lottery which kicks off on Monday, April 28. Nintendo is looking to increase production to meet demand.
The first lottery via My Nintendo opened back on April 4 and ran until April 16. During the first few days, the site saw heavy traffic and many were unable to complete the lottery initially. Once that died down, most people who wanted to enter were able to. Although there are some very strict conditions for entering the lottery (an active NSO subscription, 50 hours of gameplay, Japanese account), entry seemed to be open to pretty much anyone that tried. It’s unclear if the 2.2 million people reflects those that applied or those that are eligible. Regardless, if you are in Japan and are looking for a way to get the Multi-Language system, the My Nintendo Store online is your only shot. Lotteries at retail locations across Japan will open up on April 24. Be warned, though. The units that will be on sale for the time being will be Japanese Language Systems.
