Nintendo is doubling down on their relationship with the Major League Baseball team the Seattle Mariners. Starting on opening day next week, Thursday, March 27, the Mariners will feature a Nintendo logo on their jerseys. The home jerseys will sport the red “racetrack” logo, while away jersey will feature the Nintendo Switch 2 logo. It will be the first in the Majors to feature different logos for home and away games.
“Nintendo and the Mariners have been inextricably linked since 1992,” says Seattle Mariners President of Business Operations Kevin Martinez. “Now, each time the Mariners take the field, our jersey sleeves will help serve as a reminder of all that Nintendo of America has done for the Northwest community and the team. There isn’t a better partnership in Major League Baseball. We are grateful for our incredible relationship with Nintendo.”
In addition, Mariners center fielder, Julio Rodriguez will serve as brand ambassador. “It’s a genuine thrill to be able to partner with such a talented team, including bright stars like Julio,” said NOA head Doug Bowser. “Our history with the Mariners goes back decades so this really feels like coming home. Nintendo has a lot of exciting news this year and through collaborations like this one, we can’t wait to create even more smiles across all generations. Go Mariners!”
While monetary details of the deal have not been specified, it’s a long term one and worth seven figures annually. According to Sports Business Journal, other aspects of the deal “include visibility on the outfield wall, game day activations, community outreach and a special commemoration to be announced later.”
