Mother 2 30th Anniversary Campaign Starts at Lawson Nov. 25

Mother 2, or Earthbound as it is known as in English speaking territories, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2024. Believe it or not, the game is about to get a special campaign at Lawson convenience stores across Japan. Set to start on Monday, November 25, several different Mother 2 related pieces of merch and more will be available. Below, you can find everything that will be on offer.

Mother 2 Special Nintendo Switch Online 12-Month Card

A special 12 month prepaid Nintendo Switch Online individual membership card featuring Mr. Saturn from the game will be available at Lawson convenience store locations across Japan starting on Monday, November 25. The back also features a quote from the character on the back that has yet to be revealed.

Just to note, this is a membership for Japan. Nintendo Switch Online memberships can be stacked for up to 36 months (1,095 days). This product cannot be used if you are already a subscriber to an NSO Family Plan or NSO + Expansion Pack Individual or Family Plans. 12-month NSO memberships run ¥2,400 per year.

In addition to the new, limited edition design, fans that purchase any 12-month membership at Lawson locations will have a chance to be entered into a drawing for special Mother 2 merch. A set of six mugs featuring various designs from the game will be awarded to 20 people, while a special cushion blanket will be awarded to 20 others. Membership cards must be purchased between November 25 and December 29, and can be registered until December 30 at 11:59 p.m. More details on entry can be found here.

Merch Available via @Loppi and HMV Online

Starting on Friday, November 22 for a limited time, Loppi and HMV Books online will be accepting orders for Mother merchandise. While the pricing has yet to be revealed, four items have been shown off - a Mr. Saturn plushie, a Mother yo-yo, a yellow 30th anniversary bag and a Franklin Badge. You can see images of the items below.

GPS Check-in

Fans that visit Lawson locations between November 25 and December 29 will be able to get a special Mother 2 wallpaper. This can be done via the Japanese My Nintendo app’s GPS check-in functionality.

Ichiban Kuji Lottery

A special Mother 2 Ichiban Kuji lottery kicks off at Lawson convenience stores, Nintendo TOKYO, OSAKA and KYOTO locations starting on Saturday, November 30. One ticket will run ¥750 per pull. A total of seven grades including 29 prizes will be available in addition to a “Last One” prize for the final ticket. The following will be on offer:

Grade B - Mr. Saturn Soap Dispenser & Bath Salts (1 available)

Mother 2 Country Ma’am Cookies

This special package of Country Ma’am Vanilla flavored chocolate chip cookies features the Mother 2 logo and four character sprites. One of eight special stickers will also be available with each package. This special set will retail for ¥864 and contain eight cookies. It will go on sale on Tuesday, December 24.
