Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD x Baskin-Robbins Japan | Ice Cream Cake Showcase

As with other territories, Nintendo often teams up with a variety of companies and stores for some cool collaborations. Of course in Japan, this is no different. Back in June 2024, we reported on some cool crossovers that Nintendo was doing in Japan for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. This included putting out things like t-shirts, plushies, a vacuum cleaner and, for the topic of discussion today, an ice cream cake from Baskin-Robbins Japan. Let’s get into it.

Background
This campaign started at Baskin-Robbins locations across Japan on June 28, 2024 and ran until July 31. This featured several Mario themed flavors of ice cream, a drink and two ice cream cakes. The one we’re talking about here today is the Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD themed cake. This sold for ¥4,800 (roughly $33 USD) and had to be ordered from shops either online or in person. I opted to visit a location in a mall nearby.

Fans had a few options for the cake to make it something completely their own. First, you would choose the cake base - a white cake with chocolate chip and strawberry ice cream or a pastel blue cake with chopped chocolate and caramel ribbon ice cream. From there, you can choose up to six scoops from the entire lineup at the store. Included with the cake were some decorations featuring Luigi, Pulterpup and several ghosts that are found in the game. Also included is a mansion backdrop to place the cake on.

From here, let’s just take a closer look at the cake itself. This is the first ice cream cake I’ve purchased in my adult life and while the end result tasted really good, once cut, it ends up looking kind of like a mess. You can see for yourself below.
Conclusion
For me, it’s always cool to see the various campaigns that hit shops around Japan. I try to check out as many as I can, and I’m glad that I tried this out. The ice cream itself is tasty and the decorations are top notch. But let’s turn things over to you. What do you think about this ice cream cake? Is this something you would have picked up if you had the chance? Sound off with any and all comments down below. We’d love to hear form you!
