The unthinkable has happened again. Not only did Famicom Detective Club make its way back into existence with the remaster of the original games back in 2021, a completely new game in the series has also hit the Nintendo Switch in 2024. Subtitled Emio - The Smiling Man, this is the first new entry into the series in 35 years. For collectors, at least those in Japan, a cool new set is also available for this one, which is what we’re taking a look at today. Let’s get into it.
What’s Included?
There are two versions of the Collector’s Edition available - one that includes a physical version of the game for ¥9,878 (roughly $68 USD), and another My Nintendo Store exclusive that includes all of the bonus items minus an actual game card for ¥4,400 ($30 USD). The regular Collector’s Editions can be found at many retailers across the country. Again, this is a Japan exclusive.
The set itself includes the following:
- A physical copy of the game (minus game cart for the cheaper set)
- Investigation File (with art work, character info and more, there are several pages in this book)
- Two-Disc Soundtrack
- 1/2 Scale Replica Evidence Mask

From here, let’s take a closer look at the items themselves. You can also find some shots of the original Collector’s Edition that came out with the 2021 Famicom Detective Club re-master as well.
Conclusion
Once again, Nintendo nailed it with another great collector’s edition. Although I think that this is a bit underwhelming compared to all that was included with the Collector’s Edition for the two case collection, what’s here is cool as an overall collector’s piece. I like the inclusion of the mask, and while it would have been neat to see a full size replica, I venture to guess that Nintendo’s legal team oped to go 1/2 scale JUST IN CASE some crazy person decides to use it in a real life setting…As for the game, I’ve been enjoying getting into the cases since the free demo dropped.
But let’s turn things over to you. Were you able to grab this Collector’s Edition? Is this something on your radar? Have you tried out Emio yet via the free demo? Did you buy the game? Sound off in the comments down below. We’d love to hear from you.
