Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club Coming Aug. 29, Collector’s Edition Revealed

Mystery solved. Last week’s reveal of Emio is none other than a brand new entry into the Famicom Detective Club series, the first one in 35 years. Titled, Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, the game is hitting the Switch worldwide on Thursday, August 29. The game will retail for $49.99 in North America and ¥6,500 in Japan. You can find the synopsis for the game below.

“In Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, a student has been found dead in a chilling fashion, his head covered with a paper bag with an eerie smiling face drawn on it. This unsettling visage bears a striking resemblance to a recurring clue in a string of unsolved murders from 18 years ago,as well as Emio (the Smiling Man), a killer of urban legend who is said to grant his victims “a smile that will last forever.”

Play the role of an assistant private investigator with Utsugi Detective Agency, where you are tasked with helping police solve this crime. Along the way, scrutinize the clues and testimonies you gather for potential connections to the gruesome events of the past.”

Collector’s Edition
A special collector’s edition of the game was announced for Japan. The set will retail for ¥9,878 (roughly $63 USD) and come with the following:
  • Physical version of the game
  • Emio - The Smiling Man Detective File
  • Emio - The Smiling Man CD Soundtrack (Two Disc)
  • 1/2 scale replica evidence mask
As of right now, this collector’s edition appears to be exclusive to Japan and is currently available for pre-order via the online My Nintendo store in Japan. For more on the game, be sure to check out the chat with producer Yoshio Sakamoto below.
