Shigeru Miyamoto offered some information about the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel for fans in Japan. Taking to NCL’s X (formerly Twitter) account, Miyamoto said the following:
“This is Miyamoto. Although there will be a Nintendo Direct this evening, I wanted to share some information with you.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel will release in Japan on April 24, 2026 in Japan. We are working together with the team at Illumination to make a fun experience, so please look forward to that.”
Previously, Miyamoto and Illumination CEO Meledandri shared that the Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to release in the US and many other markets on April 3, 2026, with no specific mention of Japan. Similar to the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, the companies are likely trying to take advantage of the Golden Week holidays. During this nearly week-long string of holidays, many people across the country check out the latest movie releases. Golden Week kicks off on April 29 and runs until May 5 in 2026.
Special thanks to JC in the Discord and Cheesemeister over on Blue Sky for the heads up.
