Both the English and Japanese social media accounts for Dragon Quest teased the upcoming Dragon Quest III HD-2D. A short video clip with the series logo and the text, “The legacy begins.” in the English version and, “The Quest Begins” were shown alongside the target release platforms. The game is scheduled to hit the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S | X, Steam and Windows. The release date is still to be determined.

While details are still scarce, quotes in the social media posts hint that the game will not just be a remade version of Dragon Quest III. In the English post, the text reads, “The Legend of Erdrick draws near.” The Japanese version has a similar quote, albeit using the Japanese name for the character, Roto. Seeing as the first three games in the series are known as the Erdrick Trilogy, it’s plausible that this remake includes the first three games in the series.
