Welcome to the first FamiKatsu of the year, as the new year has finally come! However, many unfortunate events has happened in Japan; The Noto Peninsula Earthquake, The Haneda Airport Airplane Collision, and even two fires, amongst others. With all this bad luck, there must only be good luck remaining on the horizon! So, let’s look at the Famitsu rankings over the last week.

#10 - Kinnikuman Returns with New Anime

Anime classic Kinnikuman returns with a new anime this year, Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc. This article highlights the chosen voice actors for the main characters of the anime with an included YouTube cast reveal as well. Further reading shows some character designs, the decision of Production I.G. behind the animation, as well as a brief history behind the original show from 1983. #9 - Anime “16-bit Sensation ANOTHER LAYER” Coming to an End Plus More

Based around the Windows 95 environment and the NEC computer PC-9801, this anime started airing back on October 4, 2023. So what does Famitsu write about in this article besides the obvious? Famitsu details the history of the PC Market and the NEC computer that the protagonist Makoto Rokuda loves dearly. #8 - Winter Comiket 2023 Official Booth Lineup

Comiket is known as the stomping grounds for smaller artist to showcase their wares and sell them en masse to their fans. But due to the demographic that visits, this appeals to the big players as well. In this article, Famitsu compiles a list of said players, and tells readers who they are, where their booth is located, what goods will be on offer for sale and, if applicable, a picture of the goods on sale. #7 - TAIMANIN RPG Ecstasy’s Healthy Winter Comiket Booth

Over the two days of Winter Comiket on December 30 and 31, sitting in the West Hall 3 and 4 was TAIMANIN RPG Ecstasy’s “healthy” booth. What does this healthiness entail? Well, according to the maker, the healthiness comes from the ‘glamorous proportions and the sexy full-body tights give quite an exciting feeling.’ How exciting of a feeling? #5 - What 163 Game Creators Want in 2024

An apparently yearly tradition on Famitsu. This is an article that asks a myriad of game creators on a phrase to describe the new year, their desires of what they want to accomplish, what they are doing now and their focus on the new year. The creators are from small indie companies, such as ArtPlay and Onion Games, to the big players, such as Capcom, Square-Enix and CD PROJEKT RED. Check out the article on Famitsu over here.
#4 - Yearly Quiz Show “1 Year After” Game Release Called “Detective Atsushi” Interview

Airing on December 30 yearly since 2013, quiz show “1 Year After” has got a game release that pays homage to NES / Famicom-style graphics, audio and gameplay. The game features a range of celebrity guests who are there to try and answer the questions, with such questions being “Which is the top baseball league in Japan, the Central League or Pacific League,” or “Which celebrities got married / divorced this year?” The full article over on Famitsu goes over more of the game, and then an interview with Atsushi Tamura and Kentaro Fujii. #3 - Super Mario Bros. Movie Japanese Voice Cast Lineup

With the Super Mario Bros. #2 - Famitsu’s What TV Shows to Watch on January 1

Although this New Year Eve saw the lowest ratings for a family tradition of watching Kohaku (a host of famous artists performing a range of music from classical Enka up to the latest K-POP), Famitsu compiled a list of shows the family can enjoy from 3:00PM onwards, with names of the hosts and guests, as well as which station and what time. #1 - Suika Game Now Available on Mobile

In the top place this week in the rankings is the smartphone release of Suika Game. What is the difference? Well, on the Japanese App Store are a bunch of copycat clones of Suika Game, but the official version was finally released on January 1.
