Online Service for 3DS and Wii U Shutting Down April 9

Nintendo has finally revealed their detailed plans for closing down their last generation online services. Originally announced back in October but clarified today, online functionality and communication for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will be shut down on Tuesday, April 9 at 9:00 a.m. Japan Time. As of right now, only Pokémon Bank Poké Transporter will retain onion functionality. Other exceptions from third party will be made on a case by case basis and up to individual publishers. Users can still download updates and re-download games that they have purchased on the systems for the time being.

Two Nintendo published games on 3DS will be sailing off into the sunset a little bit earlier - Steel Diver: Sub Wars and Real Dasshutsu Game x Nintendo 3DS: Chō Hakai Keikaku Kara no Dasshutsu. Online features in Sub Wars have been undergoing maintenance since September 4, 2023, however, Nintendo has determined to permanently shut down the services since the likelihood of fixing the problem is not possible. For gamers that own Real Dasshutsu Game, a window for downloading the game’s event DLC has been opened since December 31, 2023 and will close on April 9 at 9:00 a.m.. Nintendo cautions gamers to not delete the DLC on or after the closure of of the online functionality as it will not be available to re-download.
