The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, which was scheduled to release today, Thursday, December 14 in Japan physically via Japanese publisher 3goo, has been delayed. The company has yet to address the delay on social media, however, the product page now lists the Switch release date as “To Be Determined.” We were initially tipped off upon calling our local game store (Geo) to see if the game was in stock only to be told about the delay.
LOTR: Gollum was met with criticism upon release on other platforms when it came out earlier in the year. It’s unclear if these same problems hindered the Switch version enough to lengthen development. The lack of updates from the company 3goo after the initial announcement spoke volumes for the fate of the game's 2023 release in Japan on Nintendo's platform. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was originally revealed back in September for a physical release Japan only, Gollum was set to be released with both Japanese and English language options on the Switch. We will continue to monitor the situation.
