From Tuesday, December 26, 2023 until Monday, January 8, Nintendo teamed up with convenience store chain Family Mart in Japan for a special Animal Crossing campaign featuring food, drinks and a variety of merch. We checked out our local Family Mart and some of what was on offer. Let’s take a quick look.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to hit up Family Mart until Saturday, December 29, so some of what was on sale just simply wasn’t available or was in limited supply. Still, I did manage to get and try out two of the pastry/cake food items - the Island Apple Danish and the Snowy Island Roll Cake.
The danish was absolutely fantastic! This is shaped like an apple, complete with a small chocolate bar for the stem. The inside is filled with an apple jam and a generous helping of whip cream. As with a lot of Japanese pastries, this was sweet but not over-powering. The apple jam was a great mix to balance the sweetness of the whip cream.
The roll cake was pretty simple and honestly, it’s kind hard to screw these up! For the record, this cake was also on point. This white sponge cake is filled with whip cream, and like the danish, is a light snack that isn’t going to over power your taste buds.
As for the other food and drinks, there were also some cup udon noodles, fruit snacks, coffee (both a specially packaged cafe au last and special cups for normal coffee) as well as merch that could be had with the purchase of various snacks and drinks.
