It’s no secret that The Super Mario Bros. Movie had an extremely successful run in the box office in 2023. In the most recent Financial Results Briefing released on November 8, Nintendo revealed the latest numbers for the film. To date, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has made cumulative box office revenue of $1,361,250,000 (USD), becoming the highest grossing film based on a video game and the second highest grossing animated film of all time.
Mario and his friends were seen in theaters by 169.41 million people by an audience across a broad range of ages, both with and without gaming experience. According to Nintendo, the film greatly contributed to expanding the number of people who have access to Nintendo IP. This is part of Nintendo’s ongoing initiative to expand the number of people who have access to Nintendo’s IP.
