It’s been a long wait, but The Super Mario Bros. Movie is finally seeing a home release in Japan. Starting on Wednesday, August 23, the movie will be available digitally through purchase through Amazon Video, iTunes, U-Next, Google Play Video Market, J:Com On Demand and Hulu. While pricing on the digital version was not specifically stated, digital movies typically run ¥2,500.
The physical version of the movie will be released on Wednesday, September 6 in a number of different SKUs. Pre-orders are currently open for a Blu-Ray/DVD set (¥5,280), 4K UHD/Blu-Ray set (¥7,260), Steel Book Blu-Ray/DVD (¥6,280) and Steel Book 4K UHD/Blu-Ray (¥8,260). Additionally, the Exclusive Limited Edition that also saw a release in the West will also be available.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in Japan on April 28. The release of this version to the Japanese market is currently the only way to be able to check out the movie with the Japanese dub.
