Nintendo sure has taken their sweet time, but Pikmin 4 is finally here. The game has received a huge marketing push in Japan ranging from food, merch and various campaigns across the country. Today, we’re going to give you a look at some of the best of the best of what Pikmin has to offer outside of the game. Let’s take a look.
Convenience Store Food
This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has teamed up with a Japanese convenience store chain for food (we covered Tears of the Kingdom and Splatoon 3 food over the past year), but it’s always fun to see what they come up with. Things for Pikmin 4 kicked off on July 4 at Family Mart convenience store locations across the country. While the menu was a bit light, what was on offer was super tasty and more of a sweets focused affair. Here’s what was available:
Four Fruit Sandwich ¥398
This sandwich featured whip cream, tangerine, kiwi, pineapple and yellow peach on white bread. These kind of sandwiches are fairly popular here and I was surprised at how light the cream was.
Strawberry Steamed Bread ¥158
In Japanese, this is known as "mushi pan” and of course, is based on a strawberry, or “Sunseed Berry” as it is called in the games. As with the sandwich, it’s not too rich and also contains a thin layer of strawberry jam in the middle. Really tasty!
Chocolate Brownie Banana Cream Sandwich ¥250
Enter the chocolate “Slapstick Crescent” filled snack cake. The chocolate is rich while the banana cream inside strikes a nice balance. This was probably my favorite snack out of the lineup.
Bottle Toppers
Available with specific drinks between July 11 - 24, these bottle toppers feature designs of all of the Pikmin types. One side of these acrylic stands has art featuring the Pikmin and their name. The reverse side has them in action. If you have all of the toppers, you can connect all of them together.
Folders
If you like ice cream, you’re in luck here. From July 11 to 24, the purchase of one select Hagen Dazs ice cream or ice cream bar will net you a folder. There are four in the set with limited quantities available at each Family Mart location. One side features the Pikmin, while the reverse side features a different design that can be connected if you have all of the folders.
Conclusion
Even though Pikmin isn’t Nintendo’s most popular franchise, the level of care that has gone into all of these campaigns has been fantastic.
