It didn’t take long, but the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has already hit an impressive milestone. Within the first three days of release, Tears of the Kingdom has already sold through 10 million units worldwide. This includes both physical and digital copies of the game. Of the units sold, 2.24 million were sold in Japan and over four million units were sold in the Americas. Breath of the Wild didn’t hit that number until over halfway through 2018, although the significantly higher user base certainly helped Tears.
This matches the three day worldwide total for the release of Pokémon Scarlet / Violet back in November. While a 2.24 million unit opening weekend is impressive for Japan, it’s still behind the 4.05 million from Scarlet / Violet and the 3.45 million units from the Splatoon 3 launch.
Tears of the Kingdom is now the fastest selling games in the history of the Legend of Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is sitting at 29.81 million units sold since its release on the Switch in 2017 (plus at least an additional 1.6 million on the Wii U). The Zelda series as a whole has sold over 130 million units worldwide.
