Wave Race 64 is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack on Friday, August 19. While this release is the same worldwide, Japanese gamers are getting something a little bit extra. Sharp eyes will notice that the video and screenshots are showcasing the Rumble Pak enhanced version of Wave Race 64 that released in 1997. This isn’t the only 1996 game that received the rumble treatment in 1997. A rumble version of Mario 64 was also released.
Wave Race 64 marks the 18th Nintendo 64 title to hit the Expansion Pack service in Japan. It follows Custom Robo and Custom Robo V2 which were released in mid-July. You can see the Japanese trailer for Wave Race 64 below.
64 Dream magazine articles are also available for Wave Race. These two snippets feature some super helpful tips and tricks, including a 27 page guide to get through expert mode and a guide for Reverse Mode. You can see the two guides (in Japanese) below.
Wave Race 64 originally released on September 27, 1996 in Japan. The Rumble Pak enhanced version was released less than a year later on July 18, 1997. It later saw a release on the Wii Virtual Console in 2007 and the Wii U Virtual Console in 2016 (late 2015 for Europe).
