Nintendo Live 2022, an in person event with tournaments, demos, stage shows and live music is scheduled to take place on October 8 to 9 at Tokyo Big Sight. This is the first time the event has been held since 2019. Below, you can find some more details about the event and details on how to attend.
Game Tournaments
Tournaments for Splatoon 3, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Nintendo Switch Sports will be held during the event.
Splatoon 3 - Saturday, October 8 Tournament - Kids (NCL Page)
This tournament is specifically for kids elementary school age and under. The kids will play in four person teams against others. The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be a total of up to 52 teams that can participate. The winners will receive a trophy, while all participants will receive a special folder (pictured below) commemorating the event.
Splatoon 3 - Sunday, October 9 Tournament - General (NCL Page)
For those aged 12 and up (kids under 18 will need their parent or legal guardian’s permission), this tournament is set to start at 8:30 a.m. and up to 52 teams of four can participate. The top four teams from the Japan only Splatoon 2 Online Challenge tournament on August 6 will be invited to the event and will start in round 3. The winners receive a trophy, while all participants will walk away with a special folder (same as above).
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Saturday, October 8 Tournament - General (NCL Page)
A tournament for junior high school students or older starting at 8:30 a.m. Up to 252 players will be able to participate. The top four players from the August 13 Japan only Smash Ultimate Online Challenge will automatically advance to the second round on the day of the tournament. The winner will receive a trophy while all participants will receive a special folder (pictured below).
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - Sunday, October 9 Tournament - Kids (NCL Page)
A tournament for elementary school age kids. They must be accompanied by an adult. Up to 128 teams of two will be able to participate. The winner will receive a trophy while all participants will receive a special folder (pictured below).
Nintendo Switch Sports Tag Challenge - Saturday, October 8 / Sunday, October 9 (NCL Page)
This is a two person team tournament aimed at elementary school and younger kids. The kids will need to be accompanied by an adult. Up to 32 teams will participate. Chambara, badminton and volleyball are the sports to be played during the tournament. The matches will kick off at 8:30 a.m. on both days. Winning teams from both days will receive a trophy and be invited to the stage show on Sunday, October 9. All participants will receive a special folder (pictured below).
Live Music
Live performances featuring music from both Splatoon 3 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be performed throughout the event.
Stage Show
Yoiko no Sports de Chōsen-sha Motomu Seikatsu
The Japanese comedian duo featuring Shinya Arino (Game Center Center DX) and Masaru Hamaguchi will perform some kind of stage show in relation to Nintendo Switch Sports.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Tournament Finalists
The top four winners from the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge tournament on August 21 will face off on stage.
Demos
A number of different games will be set up and free to play for attendees. The games included are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2, Splatoon 3 “and more.”
Tickets
In accordance with COVID-19 preventative measures and in an effort to limit attendees, lotteries for tickets are scheduled for the event. The first lottery, geared towards those that want to participate in the tournaments, is set to start on Tuesday, July 26 at and will run until, Monday, August 15 at 3:00 p.m. (Japan Time). Another lottery is being held for general admission (you cannot participate in the tournaments) from Thursday, September 1 until Thursday, September 15 at 3:00 p.m. (JT). Either a tournament ticket or general admission ticket are required to enter the venue.
