Nintendo has updated their much maligned smartphone app on both iOS and Android. Starting today, March 7, the app has been brought to version 2.0, has received a visual re-design and a handful of updates. Upon opening the app, users will now be presented with their friend list (complete with active users) as well as the the current games that can make use of Voice Chat (currently limited to Smash Ultimate, Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons). Tapping on an active online friend will show the game that they are currently playing as well as a link to more details on the software.
Tapping on the Gear icon in the upper right hand corner will bring up your username as well as friend code. This can easily be copied (via a “copy” button” and shared with others directly from your smart device. This is all built on top of the previously available features already baked into the app.
The Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app was originally released in September 2018 and was Nintendo’s solution to voice chat for the Switch platform.
